Serrano’s volleyball team is off to a great start for their 2016 season. The freshman team is coached by Ashley Johnson a 2016 Serrano graduate and a four year volleyball player and Mrs. Fieler. The JV team is coached by Brooke Meeke, and the varsity team is coached by Mr. Ross Hansen and assisted by his wife, Mrs. Lisa Hansen.

All three teams have dominated in their first 6 league matches. So far, the teams have played Apple Valley, Hesperia, Sultana, Oak Hills, and Burroughs. The Varsity team is 7-0, the JV team is 6-1, and the freshman team is 4-3.

Serrano’s Varsity team has been undefeated in the Mojave River League (MRL) since 2013 and continues to hold that spot.

In the third MRL game against Sultana, the varsity team swept them 25-13, 25-12, and 25-20 to hold their spot as undefeated.

The varsity team has been on their game and has dominated with their hits, spikes, blocks, and serves.

Carly Aigner-Swesey (11) was named player of the week on Victor Valley Daily Press. The Daily Press included that she had “49 assists, 22 digs, five kills and four aces against Apple Valley and 31 assists, seven digs and two kills against King.”

The JV team has seen major progress on the court with their communication since “knowing how to communicate is a big key” factor for volleyball as Erica Hanson (11), team captain, stated.

This season Coach Brooke is looking to see improvement from the girls on the court as well as outside of volleyball. Already, she can see a difference in the way the girls bond on the court and around at practice.

Team captain of  JV Jaimee Clarke (10) stated that she really appreciates “all of the hard work and dedication that the girls put into this team and the game.”

The freshman team has been “a little nervous but it is really new” to all of them stated Coach Ashley. As the freshman team has gotten better they have been less congested on the court and have learned to communicate a lot better.
