This Thursday, the Serrano Football team starts its first game of the season at Paraclete High School in what is hoped to be the first win of many.

Head coach Ray Maholchic states that “The experience we gain game by game has to make us better players and in turn, a better team” and it is the better team that Serrano is hoping to show up to Thursday’s game. But, in order to show up strong, “We will have to improve week by week and stay healthy.”

Maholchic expressed how “The fact that we only return 6 out of 22 starters makes this team unique to itself,” but sometimes in uniqueness there is strength. So, the goal is to come out on Thursday against Paraclete and dominate early in order to keep control over the rest of the game.

Based on Serrano’s performance in last week’s scrimmage, we can expect our DBacks to come out with a strong and solid defense – Serrano only allowing minimal yards gained. The key to locking down Paraclete is going to be keeping them from rushing the ball and scoring early in the game.

Nationally, Serrano is ranked 2195  and Paraclete is ranked 891, but last year, Paraclete was ranked 2592 which shows that this year they have a much bigger and more financially built team. Even though the odds are in the favor of Paraclete, depending on the strength that their offense has the game is still going to be close, but signs point more towards Paraclete and their program.

We hope that you will be able to make it out to the game tonight in Lancaster to support Serrano and cheer them on.
